Are you feeling tired, run down, and on the verge of getting sick? In Chinese medicine, being chronically fatigued, and having a weak immune system have their roots in the same causes. In a modern world where everybody is constantly “on the go,” or leading sedentary life with little exercise, sunlight, and fresh air, as well as living under a constant state of stress, anxiety and overwork, the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine offers a vehicle for regenerating and rejuvenating our systems. This is far a far different model compared to the Western system of medicine.
The term “qi” is close to what we commonly call energy. The more qi we have available, the more energy we feel. If this energy is bound up, or blocked, or deficient, we will experience fatigue. In Chinese medicine our immune system is rooted in our body’s qi. When qi is plentiful, and able to reach all areas of our bodies, we will have a strong resistance to getting sick. Our immune system won’t be as sensitive to allergens, and will be more adaptable to changes in environment and weather.
After a severe illness, childbirth, or very stressful life changes, we often find ourselves depleted. This is a time to get your body back on track rebuilding your system. It is especially important after antibiotics use.
For women, blood quality is an extremely important component of energy level. Anemia, from poor diet, or heavy periods, can lead to fatigue. Also, blood loss during child birth, without proper recovery and treatment can lead to long term fatigue. In short, with women we have to pay special attention to the health and quantity of her blood.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are excellent companion methods for rebuilding the body’s energy levels for:
- Post-child birth
- Anemia
- Recovery from illnesses
- Overwork/over study
- Overtraining/excessive exercise
- Long term stress
