Approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. If you include pregnancies the lost before a pregnancy can be taken, then it is possible that miscarriage rate is 40%. 75% of miscarriages occur in the first trimester. 80% of the time this will be a onetime occurrence, and women will later go on to have a healthy pregnancy. However, if she does not, this may be called is recurrent miscarriage. If a miscarriage occurs 3 or more times it may be considered habitual miscarriage.
Warning symptoms include cramps, low back ache, spotting, an abrupt decrease in pregnancy symptoms, and a declining basal body temperature.
There are many possible reasons for miscarriage. Women trying to conceive closer to age 40 will experience them more frequently. Generally, miscarriages during the first trimester are thought to relate more to egg quality, and the genetic health of the embryo, whereas miscarriages after 12 weeks may have more to do with the state of the mother, or the conditions within the uterus.
Miscarriage prevention is all about setting the stage for a healthy pregnancy within both the egg and the women’s whole body. The healthier you are, the better chances for a full term pregnancy. It is highly recommended to wait 3 full healthy cycles before you attempt to conceive again giving us a chance to work on your health and improve egg quality. This mean receiving acupuncture weekly for three months prior to trying to conceive, and then continuing during the 12 weeks of the first trimester. The frequency of treatments will depend on your age, health and circumstances around the miscarriages.
