Curious about what some of the acupuncture points used in fertility treatments do?
I receive frequent questions about acupuncture points, and why I am putting certain acupuncture needles where I do. This is the first article in a series, that will explore some of the points used during an acupuncture session. These are some of the best, and most used “fertility points” in the TCM style of acupuncture I practice. I will break it down to areas of the body.
Acupuncture Points of the Abdomen and Chest.
Many important fertility points reside around and under the navel, in a line going down the center of the body. This “center line” is a meridian called the conception meridian. From the navel down to the pubic bone are some very important points that treat the uterus, kidney and urinary bladder. Treating this area helps to strengthen the uterus. I am often needling here to help the uterine lining develop after the menses.
Off to either side of these centerline points are another special pair of points. The Chinese name of these special acupuncture points translates to “Palace of Child.” These points, and points nearby, have the main function of helping to stimulate, and help improve blood flow to the ovaries. They also help with the function of the fallopian tubes, which pick up the eggs and guid them to the ovaries.
Up above, on the sternum is a often tender point that corresponds to the heart and lungs in Chinese medicine. In our medicine, there is a connection from the heart to the uterus and ovaries. Calming the heart is critical with helping treat stress that can interfere with the proper timing of ovulation. It also greatly helps to treat the anxiety that many fertility patients go through on a daily basis.
These are some of the most important fertility acupuncture points on the abdomen and chest. Most of these points can be used for male and female fertilty patients. Stay tuned for part 2 where we will explore some leg points!

Love the article. Thank you clearing it up! I know it will help me and others when trying to explain our treatments to others. I look forward to part two! It’s interesting to hear what each point is for. Being that these are done almost every visit. Plus when I ask you questions it’s usually so much great information I can not remember it all.
