Chances are that you know five people right now who would try acupuncture if it wasn’t for a fear of needles. That’s not surprising. As a society we have been collectively traumatized as children by the hypodermic needle, and the series of immunizations most of go through. By the time we are done with them we don’t want to ever see a needle again.
But acupuncture is something different. The needles are tiny; almost hair-like. In fact you could stick a bunch of them into the hollow end of a hypodermic needle. Another big difference is that acupuncture needles are not injecting anything, so they can pass though the skin with as little trauma as possible. The hole they make is so small they usually don’t bleed when you take them out. Also once they are in they are barely noticeable- unless you move to scratch an itch.
I created this video to address this concern. If you’ve tried to get a friend to try acupuncture, but they said they are scared of needles, please have them watch this video. Acupuncture is not scary at all. In fact is extremely relaxing, which is something I bare witness to every day at my San Diego acupuncture clinic.
